When You Change

When you change, some people may not like it.

They may not like your weight loss

                                or weight gain.

They may not like that you stop drinking

                                or start drinking.

They may not like that you stopped going to church

                                or started going to church

They may not like that you started a relationship

                                or ended a relationship

They may not like that you quit your job

                                or closed your business

They may not like that you moved away

or stayed right where you are

They may not like what you start to believe

                                or what you stop believing

They may long like how long _______ is taking

or how quickly ___________ is going

There is only one person you are guaranteed to spend the rest of your life with, so make sure their opinion matters the most.

About the author

I'm Morgan Motsinger. I hold a BS in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience from Portland State University, and I host P.S. We Expire, a podcast about grief, death, and what it takes to live well anyway. I also spent fourteen years caring for my daughter Anni, who died in 2022 (MPSIIIa). I write about grief from both sides of that — what the research says, and what it's actually like inside. Nothing here is medical advice, and I'm not a clinician. It's the explanation I wish someone had handed me.
